Party Like A Rock Star : Celebrating 11

As it relates to birthdays, the month of April is a busy one for us.
Well, it actually starts March 22nd with ms. Ava. March 28th with my mama's.
Then its my dad on the 6th, husband on the 11th, Julian on the 12th, and my own on the 29th.
Whew.

Here's a peek at Julian's soiree to celebrate 11.
Please know that we were leaving for Florida early the next morning hence the delay in sharing.
What was I thinking again?
1 Welcome to the gig {my brother created these, aren't they fun?}
2/3 the candy "bar" 3/4 decor/favors
5/6/7 photo booth fun
8 even my littlest rock star gets in on the action
9/10 cake and a {somewhat reluctant, pls notice the death grip} photo with mama
The party was a huge hit even though I didn't get many takers in the tattoo parlor.
I was actually surprised by what good sports they were about the whole thing.
Rock Stars.

On My Birthday

Today is my birthday.
And in an ode to my younger self, here is what I wish I could have told her.
Krsko, Slovenia. My grandmother's house, circa 1973.
Enjoy your alone time. Times you thought you were "bored".
In later years, you will be happy to go to the bathroom without an entourage.

Don't be so mean to your mama. In the morning, when she wants to make you breakfast, eat something if only to make her happy. She is just doing it because she loves you so much.

Get out of the fashion industry. Now. It won't be what you end up doing. And the long hours are wreaking havoc on your legs. Those varicose injections? They hurt. A lot.

Bad boys are the devil.

Stop it with the tanning competitions already. You will NEVER be darker than your friends. And in the end, you will be the winner anyway since they will have more wrinkles than you. Ha.

You will have this crazy idea to get a tattoo just because. Don't do it! You will regret it and then you will spend ridiculous amounts of money to get it removed. And it will hurt. A lot.

Travel more. See the world. In later years, you will have a fear of flying and it won't be as easy. Plus, you will have 3 kids (3!! Can you believe it?!) in tow. Also not so easy.

Don't ever drink Jack Daniel's. Even with diet coke. And even when your friends say that it is not so bad. You will be oh so sick. But it will be one of the first and last times. You learn quickly.

Enjoy the littlest things in life. One day you will realize that they are truly the big things. The ones that are most important. Oh, and buy the shoes!

Friends will come and go, but the true ones? They will stay for the long haul.
Happy Birthday to me.
And Happy Monday to all of you.

What Ava Wore : Flower Child

Just yesterday morning I said to my husband how much I wish I could freeze Ava right now. The stage she is at. This age, this size.
The cuteness factor is on overload.

She repeats everything back and always in the form of a question.
I will say "let's go get a coffee". She says "go get a coffee?".
Yes, we'll get coffee and maybe a muffin for you. "A muffin?"
Yes. A muffin.
And I have to stop and get some gas. "Get some gas?"
You get the picture.

I am sure that if someone watched us during the day, they would think this mama was cra.zy
I am forever laughing at her. Egging her on.
And she goes right along with it.
Like that time I told her to jump on the couch.
on Ava:
t-shirt and leggings - Baby Gap
God, I love this kid.

Ancesserie & A Giveaway

I feel nothing short of honored to share this incredible, historical story and these beautiful products with you today.
Ancesserie, curators of fine letterpress goods, is a true labor of love.
Founder Lydia Derrick Wherry's family owns the oldest newspaper in South Carolina, The Edgefield Advertiser, and it was in the ancient library of letterpress plates that most of these were unearthed by Lydia.
You can see ACTUAL photos of these findings on their website. Just incredible!
And, it is clear that she has only just begun to unearth many of the treasures that exist.
A veritable pot of gold.

From their website:

“Ancesserie” is Old French for ancestry. As a child growing up in Edgefield, SC, my mother would bring freshly-inked calling cards as her gift to a friend’s birthday party. Fresh off her father's printing press atThe Edgefield Advertiser, these cards were a unique gift and also an expression of one family’s role as journalists, documenting and celebrating life in their community. Calling cards are a long-held tradition dating back to the Victorian Era when visitors left a card to indicate they had “called” or stopped by. Today, including personalized cards with your gifts is as much about creativity as formality - especially for birthday, wedding, shower and graduation gifts.

Letterpress is the earliest form of printing. Ancesserie’s line of stationery is all handcrafted using late 19th and early 20th century letterpress type and engravings belonging to the longest running newspaper in South Carolina, one that has been in my family for four generations! These images tell a story of when time stood still. Each card is thoughtfully designed using the finest selection of papers available that are both eco-friendly and ideal for letterpress. Ancesserie also creates custom notes, calling cards and coasters to order using your own imagination and custom plates. As is the nature of letterpress, each impression will have its own unique variation of ink coverage and depth of impression, creating a rich, exquisite note equally wonderful to the touch.

I received a set of the the delicate "calling cards" above and think they would make a lovely gift for the new mom.
The design idea was inspired by the actual layette gown Lydia's own mother brought her home from the hospital in.
The tiny vintage mother of pearl button that adorns each card is just the same.
I can't stop admiring mine and if I'm being honest, I am not sure I will be able to give any away!

I envy such a rich history.
And I applaud Lydia for continuing this incredible tradition.
Oh! And for providing us with an equally incredible and generous giveaway.
